JOYCE LAI

ABOUT HER

Joyce's lifelong passion for movement and dance began at the young age of 3 when she started ballet. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, she explored a diverse range of styles, including oriental dances, street dances, and pole dance.

It wasn't until 2015 that Joyce discovered her true calling - aerial silks. From the moment she first tried this captivating apparatus, she knew it would become her primary focus and source of creative fulfillment. In the air, Joyce is particularly drawn to playing with the tension of the fabric and exploring the flowing, trailing motions of the silks.

But Joyce's talents extend beyond just the aerial realm. When she's not suspended from the silks, she also dances with various other props, such as the flying pole, cyr wheel, silk fans, and rope dart. Driven by a desire to learn from the best, Joyce has traveled to Ireland, France, Mexico, and Guatemala to study under renowned masters and experience the dynamic flow of these specialized disciplines firsthand.

Today, Joyce is a co-founder of two thriving spaces in Hong Kong - Flow Space Arts Studio and Momentus Circus Space. In addition to her teaching and performing duties, she plays a pivotal role in curating and organizing various local circus events, further cultivating the aerial arts and flow arts communities.

Joyce's unwavering passion, diverse skill set, and commitment to continued growth have made her a respected figure in the world of contemporary circus and performance arts.
